The Mediterranean Jazz activity aims to promote and spread Mediterranean culture, as well as creating connections between the public and a variety of arts such as poetry, dance, music and visual arts. Various actors of the Europe - Mediterranean culture will have a chance to interact and feel similarities and differences. The activity also aims to create a social network between local and international artists by organizing workshops and events.
CONCERTS
Five groups will be performing concerts in Istanbul, Ankara, Mersin, Denizli and Rome. A total of 25 concerts will be performed and presented to audiences in Turkey and Italy.
Brief information on the groups are:
Milagro Acustico Ensemble Using poems of Arabian poets who lived in Sicily under Muslim domination and acoustic instruments of Mediterranean tradition, the group evokes medieval and caravan atmospheres through poetry, music and dance.
Tonj Acquaviva Welt Labyrinth
The group attempts to combine old sound with new visual arts (Video art, performing arts). Tonj Acquaviva by Agricantus creates a fusion between metropolitan and tribal sounds with ethnic, religious, political and cultural elements.
Unnaddarč Trance rhythms, minimal and visionary texts, multiethnic instruments and archaic voices create a perfect mix that is the new Sicilian electro world music.
Andrea Alberti - Orchestra Mediterranea The Sicilian musician Andrea Alberti proposes a refined path between jazz and sunny Mediterranean rhythms, a heterogeneous and refined music that melts rigor and wisdom of Occidental forms with simple melodies of Mediterranean area.
Dreamin' Istanbul
This new activity came up with the amazing techno-oriental tunes composed by Burak Demir. Ancient and new will be mixed by this ensemble born in Istanbul.
WORKSHOPS
After the first concert day, workshops will be held for the students of fine arts and conservatories as well as amateur musicians. Participants will have the opportunity to communicate and share experiences and information with foreign artists, while learning other Mediterranean musical instruments, dances and discovering the harmonizing role of music in Mediterranean cultures.
